Why Tub Surrounds Are Convenient
If you are looking for a simple and economical way to upgrade your bathroom, you might try tub surrounds, also known as tub walls or wall kits. You may either want to fix problems with old or outdated tub walls or simply desire a change of pace in your bathroom décor. Either way, you easily give your bathroom a much-needed updating.
As with many prefabricated kits, you may find a wall kit that allows you to perform the job yourself, thereby saving you the cost of hiring an outsider. In fact, prefabricated units tend to be popular with those looking to do installations or retrofits. Such units are usually created from materials meant to be strong and durable such as fiberglass, PVC or other acrylic products. Other units may use stone or tile.
Fiberglass tub surrounds are also meant to be installed over such surfaces as cement, drywall, plaster and tile. At best, they also provide a watertight barrier to help prevent water seepage in your walls. Furthermore, they also tend to be easy to maintain.
In most cases, the installation is easy only requiring that you remove the taps before fitting the new surround and/or liner over the existing fixture and tile. Afterward, you simply screw the taps back into place then seal the edges with caulk. Curing time should take care of the rest.
As you can see, bathtub surrounds are one of the most convenient and budget-friendly options for those who cannot afford to spend the time and money on more costly remodeling ventures. However, you do want to inspect your walls for problems such as mold or wood rot before you install your surround. Once you are clear of these issues, you should be able to easily get a bathroom, or more specifically bathtub, that will keep you happy.
