Should you consider home warranty protection?
Home warranty insurances are increasing becoming popular, especially among new generation of home owners who often live a busy lifestyle. Those who do not have time to learn and willingness fix home appliances are buying home warranty insurance which will protect them from home maintenance and repair chores.
Equipments and appliances typically need repair and replacement services as they age. You can either spend money on repairs or can invest in an alternative form of insurance called home warranty protection. There are several home warranty insurance programs available such Old Republic Home Warranty, AHS etc.
You can buy home warranty insurance policies to cover repair and replacement costs. Home warranties are supposed to provide an insurance hedge against major home appliances such as HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) units, plumbing systems, refrigerators etc.
A homeowner’s experience with home warranty:
Our water heater began leaking in Jan2008. Our home warranty company had a little trouble getting a contractor on short notice, so we were able to contact the same contractor who’d fixed the furnace. The water heater was replaced within a day. Again, no problems. FINALLY, our AC went out last summer. It was a Sat night, and they couldn’t get someone out until Sunday afternoon. Their contractor came out on Father’s Day. We ended up needing a new AC due to a freon leak, and the unit was installed within a week. It took a little longer than we would’ve liked but, $150ded and we had a brand new, very efficient unit. I’ve saved THOUSANDS with my warranty, and will continue to keep my policy as long as there’s something in my home that is covered. When I sell the house, I’m planning on including a year of the warranty as incentive to the buyer.
Our refrigerator died in the evening, so I left a message on their voice mail. I received a call back first thing the next morning. The man was very courteous and immediately sent out the order to Colorado Appliance. Joe Sanchez with Colorado Appliance came out the same day. He was very genuine, compassionate, and empathetic when telling us that it was the compressor. He said we could replace the compressor for the cost of the co-pay plus the refrigerant or we could take the difference in cash. Of course, we had him repair it. He was done in just under 2 hours. FABULOUS! We couldn’t have asked for anything better!
