Seattle Speeding Ticket? Don’t Try to Talk Your Way Out

We all speed. Every one of us. At one time or another we’ve exceeded the speed limit. Sometimes we get caught, sometimes we don’t. Some people get caught more than others. Some people never get caught. But one thing holds true no matter what – trying to talk your way out of a speeding ticket usually just makes things worse.

How do I know this? I’m a Seattle traffic attorney. This means I spend a large part of my day fighting speeding tickets, failure to use turn signal tickets, and following too closely tickets for people. Some of them keep their mouth shut, some don’t. But the ones that do usually have an easier time fighting their traffic tickets than those that speak up.

There is no worse thing I like to see on the officer’s report than this: “I pulled over the vehicle, asked the driver for their license and registration and if they know why I stopped them and they said ‘I was in a hurry trying to get to the store so I could make it home for Grey’s Anatomy.’ I cited the driver for speeding.”

See anything wrong with the picture? And, by the way, you can insert whatever other excuse you can think of into that statement (aside from medical emergency or something). The problem is this – you have just admitted to speeding to the officer. That statement can now be used against you in court. This means when I am in there working my Kirkland traffic lawyer butt off that it is going to be that much harder because the judge will see that you admit to speeding.

The best way you can help yourself out is to keep your yapper shut. The cops aren’t letting people go on warnings these days. They need the money too much and there is too much pressure on them to make traffic stops that result in tickets. If you want to get out of your Kirkland speeding ticket, the best thing to do is to call me when you’re done with the cop. We can help you out.
