Make Your Own Maple Candy! – Your Ultimate Guide
The process of making maple candy is really not complicated. In fact, a lot of people love tapping maple trees and collecting the sap from them be themselves. They make their own maple syrup out of this, and create a variety of maple products including maple candy.
Basically, the process involves heating the syrup, allowing it to cool, and then pouring it into molds. For the more detailed process, follow these steps:
- Prepare the following ingredients:
- 4 cups light amber maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 1/3 cup butter
- Prepare the following equipment:
- deep cooking pan
- candy molds
- wooden spoon or a mixer
- cookie sheets
- candy thermometer
- Pour into the pan the four cups of maple syrup. Add in the lemon extract and the butter. Mix them together over a high fire until the butter melts and the mixture softens.
- Place the candy thermometer into the pan to monitor the temperature.
- Allow the syrup to boil. Do not stir while doing so. Once it is boiling, observe the temperature.
- Once the temperature of 233 degrees Fahrenheit is reached, turn off the fire and remove the pan from the stove. Make sure that you do not over boil.
- Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature. To test if it is cool enough, touch the syrup with your fingers. You must be able to touch it without feeling any warmth. This indicates that it is cool enough.
- Stir the syrup until it no longer looks glossy.
- Pout the cooled syrup into candy molds or cookie sheets. Allow them to cool afterwards.
10. Place the cooled candies on wax paper to dry.
11. Serve on a platter.
12. Enjoy!
