Make sure that you know how to file for chapter 7 bankruptcy. A person is required to have some consumer credit counseling from an accredited US Trustee within the period of 180 days before filing. Choose the type of bankruptcy to be file which is either chapter 7 or 13. Chapter 7 may not oblige you to pay your creditors but pay your lawyer first before filing. Chapter 13 will enter you into 3-5 years payment and the attorney’s fee can be settled after the case is solved. Meet the lawyer you have chosen to represent you. Pay the filing fee if there is any. Your lawyer will speak to your creditors on your behalf. Meet your creditors as scheduled. Don’t use your credit card when you want to file for bankruptcy. Wait for your creditors to file lawsuits to counteract your discharge after 60 days of meeting them or you receive a notice of discharge of all your debts or partially for chapter 7. For chapter 13, a discharge notice is released after 30 to 60 days after the last payment.
