Fios Prices Competitive With Cable

One of the new options available instead of cable or satellite service is Verizon’s Fios TV.  While it is currently limited in the areas that can get Fios, it continues to expand as Verizon is spending billions to get the service into as many homes as possible.  With the expense involved, you might think that Fios prices would be as much as cable TV, if not more.  Currently that is not the case, as Verizon is pricing the service to be very affordable, and also to entice customers over from traditional cable television providers.

The best deal is of course for those who subscribe to either two or three services.  You can get the Double play, which includes high speed internet and cable TV.  Or alternatively you can go for the Fios triple play package, which offers unlimited home phone calling in addition.  While the bundles vary depending on the level of service you need as far as internet speed goes, the TV prices are in line with what cable companies charge.

The basic TV plan is the Fios TV Prime HD, which is currently at $64.99 a month.  With this you get over 220 audio and video channels, and also included are about 40 channel in HD.   The top level plan is the Fios TV Ultimate HD, which comes in at just under $90 a month.  Over 385 channels are included, but be aware a ton of these are audio stations.  That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just pays to have the right expectation on how many actual TV channels you will get.  This top tier plan has over 90 HD channels as well, so it is very competitive with what satellite companies like Direct TV and Dish Network have to offer.

Going with a Verizon bundle usually will save you quite a bit, especially in the first 2 years as service, so the smart thing to do is price everything out against what you currently pay to make a good decision.
