Finding The Best Laptop
A few years ago I went on a search for the perfect laptop. Well, the perfect laptop for me anyway. Everyone has different ideas in mind when shopping for a laptop. Some one big screens and large hard drives. Me, I wanted a large hard drive, fast processor, and small screen easy for transporting. I also wanted to to have enough computing power to run development programs such as Visual Studio.
When at home, I intended to connect the laptop to a larger external monitor so screen size was not that big of a deal. I really liked the Blue Collar program Best Buy was running. This is where they listened to mobile computer users to see what they wanted and then built a laptop around the requests. They came up with two, one was an HP and the other was a Toshiba. I liked both of them because they both had backlit keyboards and came with a decent laptop power supply. What I mean by decent power supply is it was built to last. I’ve had too many power supplies that crapped out way before the life of the laptop.
Both laptops suited my idea, but when I went into the store to look at them, I ended up falling in love with a Dell Studio XPS 13″. Built for speed and light weight, this laptop was perfect. What I really love is the hinged screen which seems more sturdy then the plastic ones found on the Toshiba. Also, the keyboard is lit as well but is extremely quiet, which works great when I’m working late in the night in bed while my wife is trying to sleep.
All in all, it’s best to take your time when shopping for a laptop, don’t be pressured into getting something you don’t want or need. Think hard about what you’re going to actually be using the laptop for then make a list of the features which will mostly add to the value of how you’re going to use it.
