Different Types of Tactical Vests
There are many different kinds of tactical vests and the exact type worn will depend on what organization you are from. In many cases military personnel would wear a large and thick armor vest to protect against heavy caliber bullets and flying debris. A police officer on the other hand will usually wear a thinner, lighter vest that is easier and more convenient to carry around while on patrol.
Depending on the intensity of each situation, a lighter or heavier suit may be required. Lightweight vests are much easier to carry around and are more ideal for humid and hot climates. Heavier vests can be quite cumbersome to have around but they offer increased protection. Some bullets may be able to pierce through a thin vest but not a heavy-duty one.
Most tactical vests are worn underneath a shirt, but they can also be worn over one as well. The material used for these vest are usually strong fabrics like nylon, aramid fibers and ballistic materials which are put together to provide maximum protection and a minimal trauma when the bullet impacts with the vest. When a bullet hits the vest, even if it does not pierce through it can still cause severe internal damage from the impact, so the more padding the vest has the less impact pain there will be. This can be especially important in a hostile environment when the person will need to recover quickly and move out of the way to avoid getting shot at again.
If the vest is too thin, the impact of the bullet will likely knock the individual down and they may get paralyzed, especially if the bullet came from a powerful gun. However, thicker vests will usually absorb the bullet and leave the person wearing it unharmed.
