Benzoyl Peroxide: Precautions and Overdose

Using products containing the chemical benzoyl peroxide should have precautions. For people who have allergies, it is better to first consult your pharmacist about it. Telling him/her you have allergies would help them recommend the perfect brand for you since some lotions and creams contain perfumes and other artificial scents. Pregnant women are also warned to stay away and avoid contact with this chemical. They may be too strong for the sensitive respiratory system of pregnant women.
Benzoyl peroxide, when accidentally swallowed, may be very harmful especially if there is a suspected overdose. If this happens, the first thing that should be done is to call for help from the nearest poison control center.
The proper storage of this chemical is also necessary to ensure safety. They should be kept at room temperature and away from too much light and moisture. Products made of this substance should also have proper disposal. Individuals are not allowed to just flush them down the toilet bowl or into the drain especially when the product has already exceeded its expiry date.
