More people today are becoming aware of the types of materials they use in the construction of their home. Because of this there are several new materials available on the market to use for building and insulating your home with. When preparing for insulation installation, you should look at several options of materials available. You can choose the traditional rolled fiberglass batting, the fiberglass foam or some type of organic material. If you select the fiberglass batting, you will want to have a good pair of thick protective work gloves to prevent any of the glass fibers from getting into your skin.
When using the spray foam, it is a good idea to wear a protective mouth covering and safety goggles in case the fine spray mist that comes from the nozzle makes contact with your face. You should also dress in something to cover your legs and arms. The foam is generally used as a filler substance between the outer wall and inner drywall board. This foam is different than the type of wall foam insulation available for use with basements. Those are stiff foam boards of varying thickness placed over the cement walls of your basement to reduce the amount of moisture that seeps in.
When considering natural or recycled products you will find several materials available. There is a type of recycled insulation made from old denim fabric that is used in the same manner as the batting material. It is placed in between the wall studs and secured with a nail gun or other similar device. Organic or green homes are often constructed using hay bales as the inside insulation. The bales are set against the outside wall and then covered over with a plaster or adobe type substance. The natural materials are generally treated with a fire and mold prevention solution before being installed in a home. The right type of installation will make your home more energy efficient and enjoyable to be in.
